In the modern home, there is perhaps nothing quite as well-crafted or as beautiful as a well-made floor. A good quality floor is one aspect of the house that is easily discernible after the passage of time. How well the floor is maintained can drastically alter the appearance of a household. One of these more popular methods in floor design is easily laminate flooring. It is the process where synthetic materials such as melamine resin are used, and topped off with an appliqué. As a result, the floor looks as if it had been made of natural wood products, or made of marble, depending on the designs used, despite being made with artificial constructs. There are five major reasons why most homeowners tend to prefer this type of method:
1. Costs – It is less expensive than wood flooring. Wood is a naturally more costly resource, and the amount needed to comprise hardwood flooring will take more out of the household budget than simple laminate flooring. Resin is easy to come by and is very affordable, making it the more favored choice. More importantly, laminate flooring also comes with a wide variety of designs to choose from, allowing owners to customize how their floor would look, and still be certain that prices remain affordable.
2. Durability – it lasts longer than most other types of flooring. The general appearance of laminate flooring does not fade over time, making it a good choice for busy households, especially with children and pets. When compared to vinyl flooring or ceramic tiles, laminate flooring does not dent as easily. Scratches that may be made from dragging furniture around, or from pet claws, tend to be less noticeable on laminate flooring than it would on hardwood flooring or similar. Pavers are stronger than laminate flooring, but tend to only be used outside of the house.
3. Easy installation – It can literally be installed in any room or part of the house. Installing is easy, primarily because laminate flooring uses a click flooring system, where a layer of foam underlayment is placed atop the sub floor. The planks are then attached to each other through what is called a tongue and groove system, which is then lain over the foam layer. The planks themselves are not actually attached to the sub floors, making it easier to remove and to customize according to the house’s architecture.
4. Easy Maintenance – Laminate flooring is one of the easiest floors to clean. A vacuum cleaner generally is able to do the trick, and do not even need any waxing or polishing. This makes it one of the ideal types of flooring to be used in bathrooms or kitchens. Sunlight also tends to have a lesser effect on laminate flooring when compared with hardwood flooring, which means it also requires less touch-ups and fixing, and do not require any refurnishing at all.
5. Stain resistance – Having laminate flooring can even be more beneficial to one’s health. They do not accumulate or gather as much dust the way some hardwood flooring, ceramic tiles or vinyl flooring sometimes would, and provides an environment less prone to spreading allergies. It is also very difficult for this type of flooring to retain stains and moisture.
