Tile flooring made from stones is more durable than other materials. They also have exceptional beauty due to their unique natural patterns. Naturally, tiles made from stone are porous that water is easily sipping through minute pores of the stone. Due to this particular characteristic, they can be easily stained by soils and spills. Even though stone tiles are highly durable, they cannot stand abrasive cleaner such as abrasive powder. Using acidic cleaner like vinegar is also not recommended since acids will scratch and damage the polished surfaces of the stone tiles. Cleaning stone floors takes careful steps that should be performed in order to maintain the natural beauty of the tile flooring made from stone. Here are some simple ways in cleaning tile floors:
1. Wipe off any spills immediately to prevent them from staining permanently onto the floor. Use wet/dry vacuum cleaner or an absorbent cloth to wipe the spills like juice or mud before they create stains which are very hard to clean.
2. Sweep the debris off of the floor with a broom or a vacuum cleaner. Remember to use soft brush attachment while vacuuming to avoid the stone tile flooring from being scratched.
3. Regularly damp mop the stone tile floor with hot or warm water at least once in a week. When necessary, you can add mild liquid dish soap for removing sticky spills or heavy soils. When the water begins to get dirty, discard it and refill the bucket with fresh water. Remember also to always rinse the floor with fresh, warm water after you use the solution in cleaning the floor.
4. To prevent streaks after the damp mopping, towel dry the floor is a smart thing to do.
5. Clean the dirt off of the stone tiles and grout by using a brush with soft bristle or a used toothbrush. Dip the brush in mild soap solution prior to cleaning the dirt from the grout.
6. To minimize the stains from outside such as muddy shoe- and footprints, you can make use an enforcing rule such as “No Shoes” policy for stone tile floors in your house when the weather outside is not friendly with the floor (i.e. snow, rain, or mud).
7. Put matting on the entrance of the stone floored room to halt potential dirt.
8. Still for prevention, sweep and clean the pavement outside of the stone floored room. This is also necessary to prevent dirt from outside since most shoeprints on the stone tile floors are inherited from the grits on the pavements.
