Home remodeling is a big job for anyone, even an expert. Each area of the remodeling process must be thoroughly researched in order for customers to achieve the look they want, at the price they want. The first place to start is with the floor. A popular look is a wood look. Wood floors lend a warm ambiance to a room, go well with virtually all interior décor, and are practical. However, solid or engineered hardwood floors can be expensive. A good alternative is discount laminate flooring.
The concept of laminate floors was invented by manufacturer Pergo. They were so successful that the flooring is also known as “Pergo flooring”. Pergo flooring was used in Europe for many years before being brought to the United States. After it was imported, affordable laminate flooring became an instant hit due to its many qualities.
Laminate flooring is constructed by taking a picture of the material to be depicted. The picture is then transferred onto the tiles, lending an uncanny resemblance to the original. The floors are available in an assortment of hardwood looks, granite, marble, stone, and a bevy of other styles.
Laminate tiles come prefinished with a tough aluminum oxide coating that is resistant to scratches, nicks, and dents that are a way of life with most hardwood flooring. The floors are not foolproof, and caution is advised with chairs and heavy furniture, but on a whole, laminate should last nicely for a long while. Soft felt pads should be placed as protection beneath chairs and furniture.
Cheap laminate floors also do not require periodic scraping and refinishing, as is the case with hardwood flooring. Some of the better varieties are also treated with water resistant chemicals that protect it from excess water. However, care and consideration should be taken before laying laminate flooring in areas of constant moisture, such as the kitchen or bathroom. Rugs should be laid in entryways, or other areas of traffic, to protect it.
Installation of laminate flooring is usually the selling point for most people. The tiles are manufactured with a unique click-lock system that allows them to be laid as a “floating floor”. This means that it is not attached to the subfloor, and no messy glue or nails are needed. Professional installation is recommended, but the floor can even be installed as a weekend do it yourself project. Because the flooring comes prefinished, staining or messy grouting between tiles is not required. The easier installation is what makes discount laminate flooring truly discounted, because the cost of installation is usually a big part of the price of a floor.
An opinion from flooring experts is always recommended, and it is advisable to learn about the different types of flooring available. Whatever the case, cheap laminate flooring should be a serious consideration for anyone doing some home improvement or home remodeling on a budget.
