Laminate flooring is often considered second best to more natural choices
such as hardwood flooring or bamboo, but laminate definitely has its place in
the flooring industry. While there is nothing wrong with hardwood, carpet or
tile, laminate flooring has characteristics that just make it the perfect fit in
many situations.
You Like Low Maintenance
We’d all love to be Sally Homemaker, but the truth of the matter is,
scrubbing grout or vacuuming more than once every two weeks is not your cup of
tea. If you want a floor that is essentially wash and wear, laminate is for you.
It doesn’t require frequent mopping. There are no fibers. Dust and dirt
accumulate on its surface without settling into cracks or the filaments, and in
five minutes you sweep it with a dust mop and continue on your way.
You Have Kids and Pets
Kids and pets are very tough on a lot of things, but especially your floor.
Foot traffic alone is killer around doorways and in high traffic areas, but the
little drips, spills, slides and scratches that occur just by being around
someone with fur or under the age of eighteen is enough to put away dreams of
highly varnished wood floors.
Kids and pets are also rough on each other at times and need a soft place to
fall. Carpet or cork flooring would be
the best choices for this, but carpet accumulates and stains from the drips and
spills and cork flooring is simply not as tough as you would like. Laminate is
installed over a slight cushion giving it a bit more give than the average
bamboo or wood floor at least. Tile flooring is a nightmare for anyone who’s
raising a klutz.
You Are Messy
Sure, blame it on the kids, but if you’re one to let a spill sit for a while
in order to finish up something else, or you honestly just forgot about the mud
you tracked in until you walk back through it later, you need a floor that can
live up to your challenges. Laminate flooring isn’t waterproof, but it’s
certainly water resistant. A spill can sit on laminate much longer than it can
on hardwood flooring without any permanent damage. And the little drips and
splatters that land on the floor are no problem at all with laminate flooring.
You Like to Save Money
Laminate flooring is attractive, but it is also much less expensive than
other flooring options. Laminate
is less expensive to install, and the flooring will last as long or possibly
longer than hardwood or bamboo flooring without any serious upkeep – just
regular cleaning. There is no expensive refinishing or repairs. Just sweep it
off and damp mop from time to time, and your laminate floor will continue to
look good and save you money for years to come.
