I like my new laminate floors and tile floors, however, with grand kids and puppies, the little wet and muddy feet always leave their evidence behind. I set out to find a perfect floor cleaning solution to keep the floor looking new without much luck. Most of the products I tried left a film or streaks and caught in the right light, left the floor looking less than desirable. What about a tile floor steam cleaner?
I had read about tile floor steam cleaners or steam cleaners for hard floors, but I had more or less discounted their value where wood or laminate flooring was concerned because of the worry that water and wood were not a good combination for floor longevity.
However, with the less than desirable results with so many liquid “mop on” floor cleaners, I decided to research more about steam cleaning of wood flooring.
Knowing that typical carpet steamers or shampooers would not be acceptable because of the amount of water dispensed, I began to search for a real “steam machine.”
There are a number of steam mops available so I based my research on the following criteria and compared seven different steam mops:
Steam temperature. I wanted real steam…not water or vapor.
Water tank capacity and location. How often does it require refilling?
Mop head size and number of steam outlets. Obviously the bigger the coverage, the less job time
Ease of handling. Handle length, weight, cord length, and maneuverability.
Construction. I wanted a sturdy machine that would last.
Price. (Obvious reasons)
Again, the main criteria was steam temperature. I wanted steam not water. I wanted hot steam with very little moisture to keep from water damaging my floors, and hot enough to sanitize. At the same time, I was aware that even dry steam can damage a wood or laminate floor if it were allowed to sit in one spot too long, so it would be necessary to follow manufacturers instructions.
At the end of my research, I chose my tile floor steam cleaner and I am very happy with the results of my choice. These are wonderful tools for all hard floor surfaces.
I suggest that you do your research based on the above criteria so that your own hard floor cleaning will be a pleasant experience.
