Laminate floor is probably one of the most efficient flooring materials, be it in cost or patterns. This synthetic wood (or stone in less frequent designs) tile flooring is less expensive than natural flooring materials and more durable than any regular carpets. The flooring is made by laminating special floor patterns with melamine material to guard its characteristics. Besides cheap and durable, laminate flooring is also easy to install.
Laminate floors tend to get dirty easily due to streaks of detergent residues or dirt prone to appear on their glossy surface even after the cleaning. However, it is not impossible to have a spotless, clean floor with laminated surface. To completely remove grime and soil, sweep or vacuum the floor regularly. Grit is the worst enemy for laminate flooring since it tends to scratch the flooring surface. Clean the floor carefully when dealing with grit, grime, or other abrasive dirt.
Besides sweeping and vacuuming, you can always mop your laminate floor. Prior to mopping, sweep or vacuum the floor to remove grit and dirt. With dirt and grit still on, the most possible things to occur while you mop are spreading the dirt all over the place and scratching a great deal of flooring surface with leftover grit.
Mopping this kind of floors only require warm water since detergent solutions can build up streaks which are more difficult to clean. A homemade solution for cleaning laminate floors consists of a gallon of water added with 1 cup of vinegar. Besides cheap, vinegar solution on laminate floors does not require second rinse. Do not worry about the vinegar odor since it will disperse as the floor dries.
To clean particular stain, there are some simple tricks to remove it depending on which kind of stain it is.
- For crayon marks, rub a soft damp cloth dipped in mineral spirits or rub dry cloth with toothpaste to remove the marks.
- To remove chewing gum, get rid of the gum with a plastic knife beforehand. Afterwards, rub the residue with a damp soft cloth dipped in mineral spirits until they are completely removed.
- To eradicate grease stain, first harden the grease by applying an ice pack on it. Gently remove the hardened grease with plastic knife. Spray window cleaner onto the residue for easier wipe. Window cleaner spray also works well with blood stains.
- For ink and liquor stains, wipe with cloth dampened in the solution of detergent and warm water. When the attempts fail, replace detergent solution with denatured alcohol to clear the liquor stain, or use commercial ink remover to eradicate ink stain.
